LG corrects a fingerprint reader on the screen of your smartphone

The days of unsightly physical traces readers in his new smart phone are numbered and bright, with LG Innotek to unveil today a new fingerprint module located under the screen glass perfection of a device.

Given the growing importance of fingerprint sensors for payments both security and mobile through payment platforms like Apple or Android payment, the ability to finish with a separate physical button will allow manufacturers to offer functionality without sacrificing design.

To carry out the new technology, a small slot cut LG only 0.3 mm (0.01 inches) from the bottom of the screen, where the fingerprint sensor is attached using a new, customized adhesive.

Importantly, LG is keen to stress that the performance fingerprint reader is not compromised by the sensor being under glass. In fact, they stress that the false acceptance rate is only 0.002%.

LG believes that the benefits of hiding the sensor in the glass are many, but most importantly will allow manufacturers to create more smart devices that can be waterproof or scratch resistant while still offering biometric security.

The announcement of LG Innotek does not mention when or where we will start to see the new sensor will appear, although LG spokesman told the Korea Times that the company is in talks to commercialize the new technology with some mobile phone manufacturers "in the year ".
