your own skin ; See the touch screen of the future

There is only so much control a small touch screen and dial-up can bring a SmartWatch, but what if you can control your mobile device using the whole arm as a trackpad?

This is the magic ... That is the concept behind SkinTrack, an experimental technology that allows a device such as a SmartWatch.

Indeed, it would be able to read strokes, drag, press, and even drawings on the skin as if they were on a touch screen inputs.

How does it work

The core technology behind the screen skin propulsion pairs of electrodes are reading a ring signal transmitter essentially turns the user's index finger in a stylus. The electrodes draw a read-and-Y-axis X on the skin in relation to where the finger is placed - even clothing - and translate the movements into commands.

Created by Future Interfaces Group at Carnegie Mellon University, SkinTrack is one of the many projects that the team is credited to advance the way we control our technology. Other ideas range from using sound to control the valves and switches to a laptop that you can feel what you're playing.

While the technology is impressive to see in action, researchers still consider the limitations that have to be worked - especially the changing state of the organ that is the human skin.

involuntary actions would have to be considered. call someone accidentally because he scratches an itch presents a topic or two for us, and could bring a new literal meaning of butt dialing.
