Sony Xperia Z3 + First impressions: family design and great features, but high point Rs price 55.990

Sony used to launch two flagship every year, but that pattern has clearly been a change, and we do not see any logo launch of Sony's Mobile World Congress. Instead we saw the aqua M4 and launching Xperia Xperia and C4 at MWC last month in India. Today Sony announced its flagship Xperia Z3 +. This phone will replace the incumbent Z3 as the flagship phone of the Japanese company. We need to spend some time with the device, and here are our first impressions.

Build quality and Design

Sony has been using a similar design playbook for years, and the Sony Xperia Z3 + things do not look that different either. The metal structure on the sides have become thinner 6.9mm. Sony has added in shockproof covers the edges. The metal structure is complemented by Corning Gorilla Glass protection 3 in the front and rear sides.

The slots for microSD and SIM cards nano card have moved to the left and are protected by a cover. On the right side you have the button on / standby button followed by the volume rocker and the base having the dedicated camera shutter button. Metal construction on these buttons gives good feedback. The audio jack is 3.5 mm at the top and the microUSB charging port is on the base.

The Xperia Z3 + comes with IP 65/68 certifications so it is resistant to water and dust. Micro USB port charging uncovered so.

Visualization

The Sony Xperia Z3 + comes with a Full HD screen of 5.2 inches. As we have seen in the past, which brings Triluminos screen Sony Mobile X-reality engine for mobile. The screen also comes with intelligent screen adaptation that helps to show a balanced picture even in bright sunny conditions. While the show using a constant image looked good, we have to treat this outdoors to see it in action. The screen is bright and colors are vivid. The text is clear and there is no pixillation that stands out. But the protective cover on the surface of the screen makes it a magnet spot and need to keep constantly clean the phone. You are better off removing the protective cover completely.

Chipset, RAM, storage

Housing Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC having an octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM, the Sony Xperia Z3 + has impressive internal parts. While using the phone did not notice any lag or slowdown. However, the phone does not tend to heat up when we shot some sample images or try to play with AR modes. This is an issue we also faced with the Xperia Z3. Taking into account the Snapdragon 810 has faced flak in the past for overheating, we will have to really test the Z3 + overheating issues once we start to revise it. On the storage front, it has 32 GB of which was around 18GB user available. It does offer a microSD card slot if you want to expand storage capacity.

OS, Connectivity

The phone comes with Android 5.0.2 along with Sony Xperia skin above it. First design looks not see anything different from what we had seen with the Z3 / Z2 or Z3 compact. Besides Sony custom widgets, there are some preinstalled applications and media content, which may be removed or uninstalled. On the connectivity front, the Xperia Z3 + comes with one SIM slot carries a nano SIM card. It supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS and supports USB OTG.

Camera

Sony is one of the manufacturers of smart phones main sensors. It has the best sensors for its flagship. The Xperia Z3 + the sensor Exmor RS also sports wearing 20.7MP rear camera with a size of 1 / 2.3 inch sensor and an aperture of f / 2.0. In the front there is a 5MP camera with Exmor R sensor 1/5 inch sensor with sports f / 2.4 aperture. Both wide-angle lenses for 25 mm cameras sport. The rear camera is flush with the surface and does not create a blip. Camera interface is similar to what we have seen with older flagships counts as Smart Auto, Manual mode, AR effects, high shooting frame rate and so on. While the image quality looked decent in the indoor shots, we keep our verdict reserved until I tried out the phone camera.

Battery

Sony Xperia Z3 had a 3100 mAh battery that was impressive. The Xperia Z3 + has a 2,930mAh battery and Sony claims it can take about 2 days worth of use. We will have to prove this statement, but if past history is any indication to go by all modes with dedicated energy saving and improvements Stamina mode, then things look positive. The phone supports quick charge function that lets you charge your phone completely in 45 minutes using the charger Sony, a claim we will wait for the tests.

Conclusion

The phone is handsome and has impressive specifications. The battery life of the Xperia series is known to be good and the Z3 + comes with a new variant of Stamina mode. But the price of Rs 55.990 is definitely steep, considering the Xperia Z3 was launched at Rs 51 990 - which we thought was overpriced at all times. So we have to really test the phone for performance, battery life, and the quality of the camera to see if it's really worth the asking price competition among capable of Samsung, LG and Apple.
