Before Diwali have a product made outside India, India Gionee head says Arvind Vohra
Gionee launched its flagship smartphone - the Elife E8 - at an event in New Delhi on October 8. The smartphone sports a rear 24MP camera comes with a Helios MediaTek chipset X10 octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. The phone comes with 64 GB of internal storage and Gionee has also given the option to add a microSD card, 64GB if you think there is not enough space.
We spent some time with the device and you can read our first impressions of Gionee Elife E8. The Gionee Elife E8 is priced at Rs 34,999 and going through the history of Gionee, price flagship phone has been a staple since the launch of Elife E6. But this time, has been associated with the E8 Gionee SnapDeal sell online. At Rs 34,999, the Gionee Elife E8 definitely have a good competition in the form of Samsung Galaxy A8, has just launched the Motorola Moto X style, and other phones as OnePlus Two, Huawei Honor 7 and so on.
Gionee also announced a partnership with online exclusive sale for sale SnapDeal Elife E8, starting from October 12. Considering Gionee has been offline player so far, I was curious about whether it was the Chinese company plans to go online only.
In association SnapDeal
Arvind Vohra, Gionee India head, said the company would remain omni-channel sales through SnapDeal, your e-store as well as through their online channel partners. For Elife E8, SnapDeal be the exclusive sales partner. But with online sales, you have a flash sales model for which pre-registration is required.
While Vohra said that registration is required for the sale, but the company was still working on the sales model. "We are wondering how we will go about the sales model. We obviously be making limited quantities because it is a high-end device. But having said that, we are not going to starve to consumers. See this is a high-end phone, so I do not think there is a fear of phone sold in seconds, "he said.
He acknowledged that Gionee was trying something new with this model. "Honestly, I'm trying my hand at something new, so we'll see how it pans out. I do not think that smartphone sales online are just price driven, there are more than that. SnapDeal has shown me that 'something else'. So let's see how it is relevant, "he said.
While we have seen a lot of smart phone manufacturers will line routes only part of its series of phones, Vohra believes that companies will want to invest not only in line first. "The guys who wanted to invest, went offline first, then online. We have invested in our channel partners offline since we launched in India a few years ago. I do not see online-offline as separate markets," he aired.
The update marshmallow and UX Friend
When asked about upgrading marshmallow in Elife E8, Vohra said there was not much of a fuss about the update still considering it is still out on devices other than the Nexus phones and tablets. He was optimistic about the UI friend place.
"We have our UI friend and at the time of Lollipop launch, there were certain things we did on Amigo UI Jelly Bean, which was later incorporated into Lollipop. It all depends on the amount of customization you made in your Android phone and what the user experience they are able to offer. We have about 12 people working in the UI friend in India, and we are working to incorporate relevant to users in India features, "he said.
Makeup Gionee plans in India
Vohra said that Gionee has plans to start making phones in India. "Before Diwali have a product manufactured outside India," he said, informing that as of March 2016 the company should be able to do all the different devices through Gionee portfolio, including Elife E8. Gionee plans to set up two assembly units in India before Diwali and initially begin with smartphones have to Series F and M.
The investment will initially focus on improving production lines. Vohra said, "Let's first start with the assembly and later depending on how the ecosystem goes well we will put more money. See the money is directly linked to profitability, if we see a high performance why not invest more? "
Vohra acknowledged that the first half was not good for the company, but since June, Gionee phone sales have stabilized. In addition to phones, Gionee also plans to enter the business of taking over soon. While not revealing anything, just Vohra said the company would announce wearables and accessories in February 2016 in the Mobile Phone World Congress.
