Google, Railtel to launch free WiFi in Bhubaneswar station; 10 others to follow





Expansion of the network installation of Internet high-speed rail users, rail will launch the service Wi-Fi Google station Bhubaneswar on April 17, the second season to be covered by the project .

After Mumbai Central, Bhubaneswar will be the second station have free Google service Wi-Fi in the country. rail users would be able to transmit high-definition videos waiting for their trains at the railway station with Wi-Fi into operation.


Under the initiative of the digital India, railways promises to provide better Internet services to passengers at 100 busiest stations later this year. Besides Bhubaneswar, tests are being carried out in about 10 more stations including Jaipur, Patna, Ranchi, Ernakulum, Allahabad, Lucknow and Guwahati have the Wi-Fi shortly.

Railtel, a power supply of railways, in collaboration with Google is providing Wi-Fi in stations. Over time, the service will be launched in 400 stations across the country covering all major railway facilities. Railtel has a fiber optic network Pan-India exclusively on the railway. It has performed more than 45,000 kilometers of fiber optic networks across the country, which Google will use to its Wi-Fi. The network consists of a wide coverage and high capacity use unlike a typical point of Wi-Fi connectivity that provides limited access area.

According to the plan, Railtel will be the ISP, while Google will provide wireless wide area networks (WAN) and will start the access points to the platforms.
